Certified Medical Assistant

Venesco LLC is looking for Certified Medical Assistants to support Fort Belvoir Community Hospital located in Fort Belvoir, VA. We have several openings for full-time Currently, CMA’s work Monday through Friday from 7:30 to 4:30 with no weekends and no holidays.

Qualifications:

  • Degree/Education: The Certified Medical Assistant must be a graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Certifications: The Medical Assistant shall be certified by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists or American Registry Medical Assistants in addition to Basic Life Support Accredited by the American Heart Association.
  • Experience: At least 1 year of experience in a long term acute/skilled care facility, primary care clinic, inpatient medical/surgical unit, or military experience.
  • CMAs may be required to lift objects greater than 50 pounds, position and move adult and neonatal patients.

Responsibilities:

CMA must be able to communicate and provide the following information during phone and online contact to patient and their family members:

  • Provide lab results per established clinic protocol
  • Provide patient education- Self- management education as directed
  • Initiate and explain patient referral process- based on established guidelines
  • Provide basic information and role of Tobacco Cessation, Diabetes education, Imbedded Behavioral Health Coordinator, Case Manager, Physical Therapist, Pharmacist, and Nutritionist.

CMA must be able to perform the follow during preparation for the Face to Face Patient Visit (Pre-visit):

  • Attend daily huddle
  • Review/copy forward note and identify required preventative test/procedures (Scrub charts)
  • Assist RN in determining & addressing patient needs prior to visit: medication renewals, required lab and radiology test, preventive measures, specific gender standby, etc.
  • Ensure appointment is scheduled with his/her PCM or Team member
  • Select appropriate EMR (AIM) template for patient visit
  • Ensure labs, radiology test, and consult results are available for provider
  • Complete forms (school physicals, Durable Medical Equipment (DME) requests, handicap decal forms, etc.
  • Transfer pertinent information from paper records to AHLTA
  • Copy past AIM notes and bring forward for current visit
  • Avoid appointment if the request can be accomplished over the phone or online.
  • Recognize and verify that orders, referral are completed and or results are available.
  • Assists with Active Duty Readiness as directed
  • Verbalized and recognition completion of Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) enrollment.
  • Demonstrate understanding and use of Care Point for HEDIS – population health
  • Schedule follow-up appointments.

CMA must participate in and perform the following during the Face to Face Visit:

  • Provide direction and or Patient Navigation (escort)
  • Prepare Clinic – environment, equipment, and stock exam rooms
  • Exam standby/chaperone
  • Assist and perform procedures
  • Schedule follow-up appointments

CMA must be able to screen patient:

  • Document vital signs, medications, allergies, tobacco and alcohol status, pain assessment, conduct needs assessment and post deployment health questions.
  • Assist with documentation of healthcare delivery in AHLTA (Tri-service Workflow AIM Form)
  • Select AIM Template for visit
  • Enter chief complaints in subjective area of AIM form
  • Assist RN in determining & addressing patient needs prior to visit med renewals, labs, radiology, preventive measures,
  • Ensure labs, radiology, and consult results are available for provider
  • Complete forms (school physicals, DME requests, handicap decal forms, etc.)
  • Transfer pertinent information from paper records to AHLTA
  • Complete Review of Systems and enter in AIM note
  • Copy past AIM notes and bring forward for current visit
  • Briefly present patient findings to provider

CMAs must be able to perform the following at the End of Face to Face Visit (Post Visit)

  • Reinforce provider and patient plan of care
  • Validate patient understanding
  • Provide Care Coordination if needed
  • Refer patient to the RN if he/she requires additional patient education specific to disease process
  • Order labs, radiology test etc. as indicated by provider
  • Prepare specimen for lab etc.
  • If consult to specialty, refer to medical clerk to explain process & provide handout for specific instructions
  • Provide directions to lab, radiology, immunizations, &/or pharmacy
  • Refer to medical clerk for f/u appointment booking

Additional information:

  • CMAs must understand the work environment exposes employees to patients under stress, and occasionally hostile patients, and/or family members/caregivers.
  • CMAs must understand that work is performed in an environment that involves exposure to infections and discomforts requiring normal and infection control safety measures. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)(gloves, gowns, face shields and masks are required to as safety precautions. Employees may be required to be Fit Tested for N 95 mask through their employer.
  • CMAs shall assume additional administrative or clinical duties as requested or needed to ensure sustainment of normal clinic operations and ensure compliance with hospital and JC standards.
