Venesco, LLC, is hiring a hard-working, experienced Research Lab Technician (Animals) at the U.S Army Institute of Surgical Research (USAISR) at Fort Sam Houston, TX.

Background:

The USAISR is dedicated to both laboratory and clinical trauma research. Its mission is to provide requirements – driven combat casualty care medical solutions and products for injured soldiers from self-aid through definitive care cross the full spectrum of military operations; provide state-of –the art trauma, burn, and critical care to Department of Defense beneficiaries around the world; and provide Burn Special Medical Augmentation Response Teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Assistance with research on orthopedic injury, tissue regeneration using stem cell therapy and scaffolds; and the prevention of infection.
  • Perform microscopic, molecular and biochemical techniques and analysis of cells and tissue.
  • Assist in studying orthopedic injury, bone tissue regeneration using stem cell therapy and scaffolds, ischemia/reperfusion injury to skeletal muscle and muscle tissue/skin regeneration using stem cell therapy, and prevention of infection.
  • Work with other biomedical research team members that are part of this task area and provide research support to answer the research questions addressed multiple projects.
  • Provides assistance with research on orthopedic injury, tissue regeneration using stem cell therapy and scaffolds; and the prevention of infection.
  • Isolate primary cells from adipose tissue and/or bone morrow aspirates.
  • Perform molecular and biochemical analysis of differentiated cells and prepare biomaterials for use in tissue regeneration experiments.
  • Assist in performing biomechanical evaluation of tissue strength.
  • Provide assistance and perform surgical procedures on animals.
  • Provide animal handling with rodents, rabbits, goats, sheep and pigs.
  • Provide daily assessment on animals and provide analgesics.
  • Perform radiographs on animals and tissues.
  • Perform computer tomography assessments on animals and tissues.
  • Perform Bio-luminescence and fluorescence detection with photon capturing/counting technologies.
  • Maintain and organize digital archive of photomicrographs.
  • Perform protein/RNA extraction from tissues and cells.
  • Perform protein analysis and quantification.
  • Perform RT PCR Analysis.
  • Isolate primary cells from tissues and or bone aspirate; perform in-vitro cell culture, analysis and differentiation of stem cells.
  • Perform microscopic analysis using multiple microscopy techniques such as, but not limited to fluorescence and confocal microscopy.
  • Perform immunohistochemical and histochemical methods for assessing soft tissue and bone injury and regeneration.
  • Performance of microscopic, molecular and biochemical techniques and analysis of cells and tissue.

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the biological sciences.
  • 3+ years of experience in a biological laboratory environment.
